Macon Electric Cooperative Meter Exchange Program

At Macon Electric Cooperative (MEC), we are committed to providing our members with safe, reliable, and forward-thinking electric service. As part of this commitment, MEC will begin upgrading all electric meters across our service territory beginning December 2025, with planned completion by June 2026. This system-wide meter exchange is an important step in modernizing our infrastructure and supporting the long-term needs of our members and communities.

Why We’re Upgrading Meters

Upgrading Technology for the Future

Electric meters have come a long way in recent years. Our new advanced meters will continue to provide accurate readings, improved communication capabilities, and access to tools that help both MEC and our members monitor electricity usage more effectively. This technology supports smarter energy management and positions our system for future innovations.

Expanding System Capabilities

With upgraded meters, MEC will be able to detect outages more quickly, streamline service requests, and access real-time data that helps us respond more efficiently. These capabilities enhance operational performance and allow us to better serve our members—especially during peak times or unexpected events.

Increasing Reliability for All Members

Reliability is at the core of our mission. The enhanced features of the new meters allow MEC to identify potential issues before they affect your service. Faster response times and improved system visibility mean fewer disruptions and a more dependable electric grid across our region.

Enhanced Support for the Cooperative

By modernizing our metering system, MEC can operate more efficiently and reduce long-term maintenance costs. This upgrade supports financial stability for the cooperative. The improved data also strengthens planning and system improvements, ensuring MEC can continue meeting the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

What Members Can Expect

Meter exchanges will take place December 2025 – June 2026, and all installations will be performed by qualified contractors hired by MEC.
During your scheduled exchange, power will be briefly interrupted for approximately five minutes. No action is required from members, and the process is designed to be quick and seamless.

Thank You for Your Cooperation

We appreciate your support as MEC moves forward with this important system upgrade. By investing in new metering technology, we’re strengthening the reliability of your electric service today—and preparing for the opportunities of tomorrow.
