Macon Electric Foundation Awards Grant to Bethel Community Center

Macon Electric Foundation Awards Grant to Bethel Community Center

The Macon Electric Foundation awarded the Bethel Community Center with a grant for $500 to help make needed upgrades to the lighting in their building. The Foundation’s community grants are funded through Operation Round Up, where Macon Electric Cooperative (MEC) members and PWSD of Macon County customers can elect to have their bills each month rounded up to the next dollar. The proceeds are used to benefit area non-profits through a system of quarterly grants, awarded by the Foundation’s volunteer board of directors.

“The Macon Electric Foundation board's goal is to make a difference in the communities that we serve,” stated Roxie Stoneburner, Macon Electric Foundation board member. “The Foundation loves partnering with local community organizations who share this same mission."

MEC members and PWSD customers can help give back to their communities by signing up for Operation Round Up. Members can register online at www.maconelectric.com/operation-round-up, or contact the office at (660) 385-3157.

“This grant opportunity would not be possible without the generosity of the MEC members and PWSD customers who have signed up to participate in Operation Round Up,” stated Stoneburner. “If you would like to be a part of this group and help give back to our communities, please contact MEC to sign up today.”

This grant is a unique one, because another of MEC’s programs, Business Lighting, will be utilized to assist in the funding. The Business Lighting program provides up to a 40% rebate for businesses and non-profit organizations who seek to make improvements to their lighting by upgrading to LEDs. Prior to applying for a lighting rebate, the business or non-profit calls the cooperative to do an initial walk through and discuss the potential savings associated with the upgrade. After completion of the project, the cooperative will refund the organization up to 40% of the fixture cost.

Organizations can apply for a Macon Electric Foundation grant by submitting an application to the Macon Electric Cooperative office prior to the due date for each quarter. The 2019 second quarter applications are due on June 28. Interested organizations can visit MEC’s website for more information: www.maconelectric.com/macon-electric-foundation.
