MEC Provides Lighting Rebate for South Shelby School

MEC Provides Lighting Rebate for South Shelby School

You may be surprised to learn that lighting can take a larger share of a building’s electricity use than you think. Significant cost savings can be achieved when switching your home or business to all LED’s. In fact, lighting usually provides the highest return-on-investment of other major upgrades, especially with businesses and schools. With the Take Control & Save business lighting program, Macon Electric Cooperative offers rebates of up to 40 percent of a business or school’s total lighting upgrade

Shelby County R-1 school was recently awarded $1486.00 to assist with lighting upgrades to their middle school gym. These upgrades included switching 30 metal halide lamps for new LED fixtures. With MEC’s rebate included, the project is expected to pay off in about 10 months.

“Our business lighting program is just one of the ways that we promote energy efficiency here at MEC,” states Allie Bennett, MEC Marketing and Communications Manager. “We also have rebates for home weatherization improvements and high efficiency heating and cooling systems, such as ground source heat pumps.”

In order to receive a business lighting rebate, the member business must contact the office to set up a time for someone to come review the current lighting of the business prior to the replacement of the lighting. To learn more about MEC’s rebate programs, visit www.maconelectric.com/rebates, or call the office at (660) 385-3157.
