Macon Electric Foundation Awards Grant to La Plata Public Library
The Macon Electric Foundation was happy to award La Plata Public Library with a grant for $750 to help make needed repairs and improvements to the building. The Foundation’s community grants are funded through Operation Round Up, where Macon Electric Cooperative
(MEC) members and PWSD #1 of Macon County customers can elect to have their bills each month rounded up to the nearest dollar. The proceeds are used to benefit area non-profits through a system of quarterly grants, awarded by the Foundation’s volunteer board of directors.
“I was excited that the Macon Electric Foundation was able to award the La Plata Library with this grant,” stated Jessica Hulett, Macon Electric Foundation board member. “This little library was one of my favorite places to go as a little girl and now I take my boys there to check out
books. It is a great asset to the La Plata community.”
MEC members and PWSD customers can help give back to their communities by signing up for Operation Round Up. Members can register online at www.maconelectric.com/operation-round-up, or contact the MEC office at (660) 385-3157.
“If it were not for the MEC members who have signed up for Operation Round Up, this grant opportunity would not be possible,” stated Hulett. “Please speak to a member of the Macon Electric Foundation, or an MEC employee, to sign up today. Your generosity will help more non-profit organizations in our local communities.”
Organizations can apply for a Macon Electric Foundation grant by submitting an application to the Macon Electric Cooperative office prior to the due date for each quarter. The 2018 fourth quarter applications are due on November 30. Interested organizations can visit MEC’s website
