Macon Electric Foundation Awards Grant to North Shelby TRACTION
On July 31, the Macon Electric Foundation awarded a community grant to the North Shelby TRACTION team. The group received $500 to help secure motivational speakers during the school year. TRACTION is new to North Shelby this year and the students involved plan to focus on empowering their peers to understand and appreciate roadway safety.
The Foundation’s community grants are funded through Operation Round Up, where Macon Electric Cooperative (MEC) members can elect to have their bills each month rounded up to the next dollar. The proceeds are used to benefit area non-profits through a system of quarterly grants, awarded by the Foundation’s volunteer board of directors.
“The Macon Electric Foundation board strives to make a difference in the communities that we serve and there is no better way to do this than to help these students spread the message of roadway safety,” stated Roxie Stoneburner, Macon Electric Foundation board member. “We were so excited to be able to provide TRACTION with this grant to help them with their initial efforts in securing speakers to spread their message.”
MEC members can help give back to their communities by signing up for Operation Round Up. Members can register online at www.maconelectric.com/operation-round-up, or contact the office at (660) 385-3157.
“None of this would be possible without the generosity of our MEC members who participate in Operation Round Up,” stated Roxie. “We appreciate everyone's support and encourage you to contact the Macon Electric office to learn more about Operation Round Up should you have any questions.”
Organizations can apply for a Macon Electric Foundation grant by submitting an application to the Macon Electric Cooperative office prior to the due date for each quarter. The 2018 third quarter applications are due on August 31. Interested organizations can visit MEC’s website for more information: www.maconelectric.com/macon-electric-foundation.
