Macon Electric Foundation Awards Grant to South Shelby FFA WLC Students
The Macon Electric Foundation awarded a community grant to the South Shelby FFA group who will be attending Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) this summer. The group received $200 to help with trip expenses. The Foundation’s community grants are funded through Operation Round Up, where Macon Electric Cooperative (MEC) members can elect to have their bills each month rounded up to the next dollar. The proceeds are used to benefit area non-profits through a system of quarterly grants, awarded by the Foundation’s volunteer board of directors.
"The Macon Electric Foundation board is excited to be able to help send students from the South Shelby FFA chapter to Washington D.C. this summer," said Michele Collins, Macon Electric Foundation board member. “Whenever we are able to help our youth expand their horizons even a little bit, it is a great day!”
MEC members can help give back to their communities by signing up for Operation Round Up. Members can register online at www.maconelectric.com/operation-round-up, or contact the office at (660) 385-3157.
“Without the Operation Round Up and our co-op members who are participating, this would not be possible,” stated Collins. “Please consider signing up for Operation Round Up to help us to assist our surrounding communities in continuing to reach their goals.”
Organizations can apply for a Macon Electric Foundation grant by submitting an application to the Macon Electric Cooperative office prior to the due date for each quarter. The 2018 second quarter applications are due on June 29. Interested organizations can visit MEC’s website for more information: www.maconelectric.com/macon-electric-foundation.
