Macon Electric Foundation Awards Grant to Maples Repertory Theatre

The Macon Electric Foundation awarded a grant in the amount of $500 to Maples Repertory Theatre to help fund their kids’ summer performance camps. During these camps, the kids learn a full play or musical from start to finish, including memorizing lines and choreography.

"The Macon Electric Foundation Board is excited to have the opportunity to present the Maples Repertory Theatre with this grant,” stated Carol Burstert, Macon Electric Foundation board member. “Thanks to the support of everyone who has signed up for Operation Round Up, we are able to help deserving non-profit organizations continue to make differences in our communities.”

The Macon Electric Foundation was formed with the purpose of working collaboratively to allocate the funds collected from the Macon Electric Cooperative (MEC) Operation Round Up program to local community events and projects.

Macon Electric Cooperative members can help give back to their communities by signing up for Operation Round Up. This program encourages members to voluntarily round-up their electric bill each month to the nearest dollar, with the extra change going to the Foundation for their grants and senior scholarships. Members can register online at www.maconelectric.com/operation-round-up, or contact the MEC office at (660) 385-3157.

“We encourage all Macon Electric Cooperative members to take a couple of minutes to learn more about Operation Round Up and to sign up for this wonderful program,” said Carol.

The Macon Electric Foundation has been able to award 23 community grants thus far, impacting hundreds of lives in the MEC service area. The Foundation also awards eight scholarships to local high school seniors each year.

Organizations can apply for a Macon Electric Foundation grant by submitting an application to the Macon Electric Cooperative office prior to the due date for each quarter. The 2018 first quarter applications are due on March 30. Interested organizations can visit MEC’s website for more information: www.maconelectric.com/macon-electric-foundation.
