Every electric distribution system experiences occasional outages, which can usually be attributed to severe weather conditions. If your power goes off please follow these guidelines.
1. Check your breaker box or fuse panel to see if a fuse is blown or breaker is tripped. 2. Check to see if your neighbors have power (if possible). This will help us determine if the outage is a line outage or an individual outage. 3. If all breakers or fuses are on but the power is still off, please call the Cooperative at (660) 385-3157 or (800) 553-6901. Please have the name your account is held under and location number ready, if possible, when you make your call. 4. Once you have reported the outage, turn off all major appliances, such as: furnaces, air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators, etc. After power has been restored wait a few minutes before turning everything back on.
Consider preparing an emergency kit to have on hand in case of an extended outage. Some things you might want to include in your kit would be; flashlights with fresh batteries, a battery operated radio, bottled water, canned food with a manual can opener, and a backup heat source. If you have a family member that depends on medical life support equipment or a business that depends on constant electricity, an Emergency Action Plan is a must. A backup generator may be necessary; however, generators can be deadly to our linemen if they are not installed properly. Please contact a professional when installing a generator.
